ABOUT THE ROLE
We need experienced workers to combat rising hate crimes in London. A successful candidate must show empathy for clients and casework skills, including making representations. They need a working knowledge of race-related legislation and procedures and an understanding of public interest campaigns.
This plays an important role in challenging racism in our society, especially in London. The role requires understanding the current social and political climate. It also involves recognising how racism impacts racialised communities. Advocacy can empower discriminated and marginalised communities.
BRIEF INFORMATION ON THE MONITORING GROUP
The Monitoring Group was established in Southall, West London in the early 1980s. It was founded by young local community activists and lawyers. They aimed to challenge State misconduct, neglect, and all forms of racism.
It is recognised as one of the leading anti-racist organisations in the UK and has a national profile. Black, Asian, and Migrant communities have made it a permanent feature in their civil rights struggles. This unique role defines the UK's social justice landscape. It achieved this status by creating a unique hybrid model. Over the last four decades, the work has included advocacy, grassroots organising, and public interest campaigns aimed at changing discriminatory laws.
